Psychotic that these top comments are telling you you’re wrong, 99% of the time someone would be happy to give up the middle seat
everyone shitting on this method is kind of dumb. OF COURSE there is the possibility that the middle person doesn’t want to switch, but that is improbable, and again it is a known risk.
If I got stuck in the middle, I would be very happy to take an aisle seat, as would most people (or maybe they like the window)

People in the comments are overreacting. It’s a good tactic and if the flight is fully booked and you have someone in the middle just be polite and ask if they’d prefer the aisle or window seat and in the odd scenario where they want to stay in the middle, which is highly unlikely, then you get to enjoy some alone time on the plane.
Is that really the worst case scenario? Or is it that an obese man sits in between and doesn’t change seats?
There are never any empty seats.
Unless you fly on the airline I work for… where flights are almost always oversold 😂😂

So this life hack is to NOT book a middle seat so that you can later try and get somebody to give you their middle seat. 😵💫
I would much sooner sit with a stranger in between my friend and myself, rather than sit in the middle seat anyway.

Nobody is obligated to switch seats. Flights are always full or close to it.
